Further to our recent communication regarding your upcoming Lower Danube sailing, we are writing to provide you with an important update.
As previously advised, Hungarian authorities have announced a complete shipping blockade at Paks, located between Budapest and Mohacs. The closure is required to support water management works associated with the operational safety of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant.
In addition to this current navigational challenge and ongoing low water river conditions, we have made the difficult decision to cancel your Lower Danube Discovery River Cruise departing September 20, 2026.
We sincerely apologise for the late notice and understand how disappointing this news will be, particularly as our guests may have already commenced their travels in Europe. Please be assured that this decision has only been made after exhausting all reasonable alternatives and with careful consideration of the guest experience.
To assist you with your travel plans, we would like to offer the following options:
- Transfer to an alternative departure: Transfer to an alternative Lower Danube Discovery departure in 2026 or 2027, with your current cruise pricing and applicable offers protected.*
- Future Travel Credit: Receive a Future Travel Credit to the value of monies paid to Scenic for your cruise, to be used towards a new Scenic Group journey departing within the next 24 months.*
- Refund: Receive a refund of monies paid to Scenic for this booking.*
For guests who have pre or post cruise arrangements booked with Scenic and wish to continue with their travel plans, please contact our Reservations team. We will be pleased to assist you with your arrangements and discuss how we can best support your onward travel plans.
