Viking Venus Delayed for Arrival to Tilbury but no Injuries after Hurricane Strength Winds Affect Sailing

Schools and bridges were closed, while busses and ferries have been cancelled in parts of northern Norway due to strong winds on Wednesday February 8, 2023.

Viking Venus is delayed by a couple of days into Tilbury by weather.  Guests already in the UK for next cruise to be accommodated in hotels and next cruise will affected.

Guests were provided a Viking letter that stated the delay would be 48hrs ie the follow- on cruise would depart Monday 14th rather than Sunday12th. Also to allow Venus to catch up time Viking will be cancelling the Amsterdam(Ijmuiden) port stop from that cruise. Passengers will receive $150 in their onboard accounts as compensation.

Passengers state that there have been 60mph winds and 30ft waves, with horizontal blizzards. As of February 10, they are at the tail end of the storm, which had 100mph wind and 60ft seas. The ship stayed in Tromso an extra day because of it. Progress has been about 4 knots for almost two days.

 Update Feb 11:

The Captain announced Venus is on time for turnaround on the 14th and will dock around midnight (13th) in Tilbury.

At noon our time there were 6-7m swells and 30-40 mph winds, expected to ease later today, and this is fairly normal for the area.

There is apparently no damage to the ship, and no injuries.
