Review of the Airport Hotel Hilton Boston Logan

After undergoing renovations, the Hilton Boston Logan remains a great option for a brief stay in Boston, early or late flights or even just to explore the East End of the historic New England city.

LTD has stayed at this hotel many times and   We had the opportunity to stay at the Hotel for the inaugural Boston Frogman Swim to benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation, which took place at the Piers Park Sailing Center June 2, 2019.  The Frogman Swim Series strives to build national awareness of the Naval Special Warfare community and support the Navy SEAL Foundation whose mission is to provide immediate and ongoing support and assistance to the Naval Special Warfare community and their families.  The swims present a challenging endeavor to provide a small reminder of the hardships endured by our elite and silent warriors while encouraging others to support and donate to the cause.

1. Shuttle to Hotel

The shuttle is convenient and needs to be called upon landing. Personally we prefer to walk which is a convoluted path to the hotel through terminal A, over crosswalks and through a parking garage but is easy if you want some exercise. If you walk make sure to pay your respects at the 9/11 memorial.

The shuttle is available to take you to the Metro stop nearby, the rental car center or back to the airport during or after your stay. If you need to go to somewhere else nearby like a park to run the manager offered that service to us - so ask!

2. Check in

Check in was easy. There is an Honors line and we were welcomed as members but the checkin line can get long as we saw at various times throughout our stay.

3. Rooms

The Hilton Boston Logan has recently undergone a renovation of its rooms. The carpeting is new and the vanities and mirrors are new however the same beds and bathroom floor and shower curtains were in our rooms. Some modern conveniences such as more electronic outlets are appreciated. Apparently some rooms now have shower doors but not our room so it renovations do not appear to be hotel wide.  We asked the manager and it appears that only the upper floors have been fully renovated. There are refrigerators in the rooms which is pleasant if you are staying for longer than a layover. Unfortunately king sized pillows are not on king sized bed -- a common oversight that we do not understand! Robes are in the closet.

Otherwise the beds had comfortable linens and well weighted comforters. However, the pillows were definitely a weakness and pretty uncomfortable.

While it is nice not to be sleeping on a paper-thin pillow sometimes a thick pillow is just as uncomfortable.

In room coffee is provided as a standard for all Hilton Hotels and plenty of in room water is provided. The noise from the airport is surprisingly limited despite being able to see the terminal directly out of our window. But be ready for inconsiderate guests who are talking while leaving to catch flights all night.

There is an in-room safe of an adequate size to store a laptop and more. Housekeeping missed making up our room one day and we had to request service.

4. Bathrooms

Review of the Airport Hotel Hilton Boston Logan

The bathroom for our room was a big weakness. The layout is awkward and you cannot get to the toilet or shower without fully shutting the door. As you might anticipate the bathroom can get humid and hot with the door fully shut and we always are hesitant to step near the toilet because it is one of the most soiled spots in a hotel room! Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to avoid this area of the bathroom! As mentioned above shower curtains are still in the hotel but the new lighting and vanity are refreshing.  Crabtree and Evelyn products, standard at Hiltons, were included.

5. Dining

There are two on-site restaurants: Berkshires and Connolly's Publik House. Evening drinks and food are served at the Publik house and are overpriced but of good quality.

Breakfast is served in Berkshires and we remind you that cold breakfast is included for Hilton Honor Gold members which is included with American Express Platinum.

The breakfast bar at the Hilton Boston Logan was very good and a we looked forward to it every morning - especially the large selection of prepared fresh fruit.

In the morning there is coffee available in the room or at Starbucks in the lobby.

There are many restaurants nearby in up and coming Boston's East End and here are a few suggestions:

1. Santarpio's Pizza - an East End tradition! Easy and delicious option nearby. Ask for the shuttle, walk or Uber.

2. KO Pies a local favorite and about a .5 mile walk through a great artsy neighborhood to get there, grab a seat as quickly as you can. Know what you want and whatever you do don't ask for ANY SUBSTITUTIONS! Enjoy a local cider with your pie which is literally brewed at ? 50 yards away.

6. Fitness

There is a fitness room on site should you have time to utilize it. It is large, bright with lots of windows and well supplied.

There is an indoor pool on site.

If you prefer to run we recommend a route around East Boston.  Ask the concierge to direct you, but it is easily accessible by turning right out of the entrance to the hotel, left at the stoplight and running toward the water. A seamless path along the water runs from the Hyatt Harborside hotel, 1.5 miles to Marginal St. There are great views of the water and the Boston skyline, as the path heads along the HarborWalk past the Hyatt hotel, fishing docks, and then the very pleasant Piers Park. After 1.5 miles, connect to the East Boston Greenway, a multi-use path that runs for about another mile through East Boston, into Bremen Street Park, terminating at the East Boston branch library.

For running LTD recommends HOKA shoes.  These are great even if you are not a runner and are looking for good cushioning for comfort when globetrotting.  Lots of colors are available and are good for men or women!  Click the photo below to learn more at Amazon!

Bottom line:

The Hilton Boston Logan is not the best option for hotels in Boston but for an airport hotel it has many positives. The renovations at this Hilton have updated the rooms to some degree with new side tables, bathroom vanity sinks, mirrors, and toilets making it look current. New carpeting in the hallways and in the room are refreshing. We asked which floors have been done and so far 7-10 (the top floors).  Renovations for the most part improved form over function, but some improved function as well: such as easy to plug in devices near the bed and desk.  Many luxury hotels don't have this basic functionality.  The Hilton Boston Logan remains a great option for a brief stay in Boston, early or late flights or even just to explore the East End of the historic New England city.
