If you have spent more than five minutes browsing online travel forums trying to research this itinerary, you have probably run into a wall of shorthand. Most commonly you will see GET, which is simply shorthand for the Grand European Tour. But then people start arguing over "AB" vs "BA".

If you sail Budapest to Amsterdam, you can adjust to the time zone on land first. If you sail from Amsterdam to Budapest, you get to save this show-stopping grand finale for last.
On the flip side, starting in Budapest means you get to experience the romantic Middle Rhine, lined with storybook hilltop castles, right at the beginning while your energy is highest. Additionally, sailing through the Waal and Merwede rivers in the Netherlands turned out to be an unexpectedly scenic highlight that many travelers overlook!
